Swimming Pool Covers
You can protect your summer fun with pool covers. They keep above ground pools in good shape through the winter. When the weather is once again warm enough to swim, the pool will be unharmed by the elements.
There are several ways that they protect pools. One way is retarding the growth of algae. Many of these covers have a black material that faces into the water. This prevents algae from growing in the pool because it takes away the light algae needs for photosynthesis.
Just having one over pools can keep them clear of leaves, dirt, and other debris that may fall into them. If you have trees in your lawn, it is practically inevitable that some leaves will get in your pool if you do not cover it. As for dirt, you may wonder how it got in there, but every spring you will find it at the bottom of your pool if it is not covered.
They can be made to filter out the harmful effects of UV light. UV light can fade your pool and even degrade the material it is made from. Pool covers that offer this protection are better for your pool.
Some have a three-foot overlap around the edges. To be safe, it is best to hold out for those with a four-foot overlap. These keep the cover in place with no room for the ones to come loose enough to let in debris and dirt.
Compare scrim numbers of covers you are considering purchasing. The scrim number measures the tightness of the weave. If find covers with higher scrim numbers, they tend to be of higher quality.
What you can do is to only buy one with warranties of eight or up to fifteen years. That gives you some assurance that your cover will fulfill its pledge of standing up to the weather. It means that any defects in workmanship will be fixed, or the covers will be replaced.
Most are made mostly of laminated polyethylene sheeting. Compare the thicknesses of the different brands you check out. There should also be rust-free grommets on the cover to hold it on the pool. They might be made of aluminum. Look for heat sealed, double stitched seams.
It helps to know a little about them before you go out and buy one. You can end up with one that will rip and tear easily if you do not know what to look for. It is better to find out what you can to protect the investment you have in your pool.
